چکیده

We study ionization and transport processes in partially ionized multicomponent plasmas. The plasma composition is calculated via a system of coupled mass action laws. electronic properties are determined by the electron-ion electron-neutral cross sections. influence electron-electron scattering considered correction factor to contribution. Based on this data, electrical thermal conductivity as well Lorenz number calculated. For conductivity, we consider also contributions translational motion neutral particles dissociation, ionization, recombination reactions. apply our approach composed hydrogen, helium, small fraction metals (Li, Na, Ca, Fe, K, Rb, Cs) typical for hot Jupiter atmospheres. present results function density temperature then along P-T profiles outer part HD 209458b. profile allows revising Ohmic heating power related fierce winds planet's atmosphere. show that higher temperatures suggested recent interior models could boost thus values large enough explain observed inflation

Multicomponent Transport Algorithms for Partially Ionized Plasmas

We investigate iterative methods for solving transport linear systems of partially ionized plasmas. We consider the situations of weak and strong magnetic fields as well as nonequilibrium and the linear systems are investigated in their natural constrained singular symmetric form. Stationary iterative techniques are considered with a new more singular formulation of the transport linear systems...

Mapping the Atmospheres of Hot Jupiters

We present the results of recent observations of phase-dependent variations in brightness designed to characterize the atmospheres of hot Jupiters. In particular, we focus on recent observations of the transiting planet HD 189733b at 8 μm using the Spitzer Space Telescope, which allow us to determine the efficiency of the day-night circulation on this planet and estimate the longitudinal positi...

No Detectable H3 Emission from the Atmospheres of Hot Jupiters

H3 emission is the dominant cooling mechanism in Jupiter’s thermosphere and a useful probe of temperature and ion densities. The H3 ion is predicted to form in the thermospheres of close-in ‘hot Jupiters’ where its emission would be a significant factor in the thermal energy budget, affecting temperature and the rate of hydrogen escape from the exosphere. Hot Jupiters are predicted to have up t...

Quantum Molecular Dynamics of Partially Ionized Plasmas

We study a partially ionized hydrogen plasma by means of quantum molecular dynamics, which is based on wave packets. We introduce a new model which distinguishes between free and bound electrons. The free electrons are modelled as Gaussian wave packets with fixed width. For the bound states the 1s-wave function of the hydrogen atom is assumed. In our simulations we obtain thermodynamic properti...

Hall magnetohydrodynamics of partially ionized plasmas

The Hall effect arises in a plasma when electrons are able to drift with the magnetic field but ions cannot. In a fully-ionized plasma this occurs for frequencies between the ion and electron cyclotron frequencies because of the larger ion inertia. Typically this frequency range lies well above the frequencies of interest (such as the dynamical frequency of the system under consideration) and c...
